The Kings, the Sheppard and the Lion

Amos 1:1-2

By the time that we arrived at Amos, the Kingdom had been divided for years. The financial instability that immediately followed the death of Solomon had passed. This was a time of comfort, corruption and compromise. Things were going well in the eyes of those who were ripping the benefits, but not so much for the poor and the marginalized. It is hard to understand someone else's pain when everything is going well for you, but in the midst of injustice God’s roars like a lion.

How would you feel if someone that is not from your community comes in to criticize your community?

Why do you think that God ask Amos to do just that?

Why do you think that it is important for God to “roar” and “thunder” His message to through the prophet?

Where do you need someone else to speak into your life? What areas in your life does God needs to waken up through “roar” and “thunder?” What areas of our community does God needs to waken up through “roar” and “thunder?”

John 13:2-5, 12-17

The prophet Isaiah used the love of a mother in order to explain the love of God. You would have a hard time finding someone that understands what service is better than a mother. A mother will serve even when she is tired, even when she feels embarrassed by her child’s behavior, and even when she feels like wanting to escape. In the same way, there is no better revelation of the character of God to humanity than Christ himself. In anticipation to the cross, Christ wrapped a towel around his waist and washed the feet of his disciples even when Peter was about to denied him, even when Judas was about to betray him, even when John and James were edging for positioning. At a critical moment edged in the mind of the disciples, Christ shows them how to serve and invites them to do the same.

When someone has served you in a time of need? How did you feel? What this meant for you?

Juan 13:2-5, 12-17

El profeta Isaías usó el amor de una madre para explicar el amor de Dios. Usted tendría dificultades encontrando a alguien que entienda qué es servicio mejor que una madre. Una madre sirve incluso cuando está cansada, incluso cuando se siente avergonzada por el comportamiento de su hijo, e incluso cuando siente ganas de escapar. De la misma manera, no hay mejor revelación del carácter de Dios a la humanidad que Cristo mismo. En anticipación a la cruz, Cristo envolvió una toalla alrededor de su cintura y lavó los pies de sus discípulos incluso cuando Pedro estaba a punto de negarle, incluso cuando Judas estaba a punto de traicionarlo, incluso cuando Juan y Santiago estaban buscando posiciones. En un momento crítico en la mente de los discípulos, Cristo les muestra cómo servir y les invita a hacer lo mismo.
