When is the last time that you had to deal with a child in a temper tantrum? I remember some years ago standing in the middle of a Target aisle with one of my sons. At the time he was only 2-3 years old. Target seemed like a quick one stop shop to gather multiple of the items our home needed. That was a great idea until he saw the toy aisle. Faced with the reality that toys would not be included in this “quick” trip to the store, he planted himself down on the ground crying to the top of his little lungs. This was very much the attitude of Habakkuk in this passage. Consumed by his own limited perspective, Habakkuk could not conceive of a reality that included the Chaldeans, any more than a child can conceive a trip to the store without toys. Yet we are reminded that God sits in God's holy temple, meeting us in our needs but sitting above our circumstances.
