2 Corinthians 4:7-9, 13-16
According to Paul, as a church, we can be
despaired or we can be thankful, but we can’t be both. Thankfulness is rooted
in a deep sense of gratitude for the power of the Holy Spirit poured on us
despite the fact the fact that we did not deserve it. Few can say that went
through as many attacks, challenges and persecution as Paul. Despite this
reality, he calls for thankfulness as a pure expression of worship based, not
in our current condition, but on the unchanging faithfulness of God towards us.
Our suffering is real, but our God is greater.
When is the last time that you received
something good that you clearly did not deserved? How did it make you feel?
How are you a “jar of clay” receiving
extraordinary power? How do you see this in your daily living and in the life
of our church?
Paul argues that true thankfulness leaves
no room for despair. Do you agree with this? Why?
Are you more likely to choose despair or
thankfulness in your spiritual life? Why?
