Luke 8:22-25
At first look, it would be easy to be
hard on the disciples while reading these verses. They have been with Jesus for
a while. So far they have seen Jesus healed the sick, bring a widow’s son back
to life, and filled two boats with more fish that they have ever seen in their
whole careers as fishermen. They have come a long way. Yet when a storm shows
up out of nowhere, they panicked. Is not that they didn’t have faith in Jesus.
After all, they do go looking for Jesus in the moment of crisis. It is that
they do not trust him enough to not be fearful to begin with. They belief in
Jesus but they do not understand the implications of His identity. If they
truly knew who Jesus was, then a storm would have never scared them like that.
Do you trust Jesus not to be fearful to begin with?
Have you ever been in a storm at sea?
What does it feel like? Were you scared at the time?
Read Luke 8:22-25. How do you think
that you would have reacted to the situation? Why?
Are you surprised by Jesus’ reaction
to the disciples’ plead? Why? Or Why not?
The disciples could trust Jesus, but
they could not believe that Jesus could make the storm stop. What is your level
of trust in Christ? How far are you willing to trust Christ? How can
we see this in your life?
