Romans 1:28-32
There is a great difference between learning something from
someone that has experience that learning from someone that have acquired
knowledge only from books. The person
with experience simply has an ability to apply
the knowledge that others can’t do. Discipleship is not a matter of simply
acquiring more knowledge (meat). As we have mentioned before, most Christians
are educated well beyond their level of obedience. There is a big difference
between having knowledge about the Bible, discipleship, or evangelism and
actually getting involved in the messy nitty gritty details of someone’s life
with love, mercy and acceptance. These are two completely different things.
Discipleship is a matter of becoming something that you are not. The best way
for the church community to know what you are becoming is by your fruits: love, joy, peace,
forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). You can acquire all the knowledge you
want, but the fruit of the Spirit cannot be fake.
Why it is easier for people to focus on “meat”
than on “fruit?”
What do you think Paul means by “the
knowledge of God?” In what way they knew God and what way they did not know
God?
Why do you think that “knowing about God”
did not keep them from falling in this sinful spiral?
What would God give them up to “their
deprived mind?” What do you think was the purpose of this?
Verse 30 has a list of sins that they had.
Verse 31 has a list of fruits that they did not had. What do you think is the
relationship between sin and fruit?
